Oceanic influences from the west determine the
climate in Vienna, with cool summers, mild winters and plenty of
rainfall; but to the same degree there are continental influences
from the east resulting in hot summers, cold winters and little
rainfall. This transitional climate becomes particularly obvious by
varying temperatures and average rainfall within the urban area. In
recent years, the effects of global climate change resulted in less
rainfall, longer droughts and milder winters. The average air
temperature was 11.4°C in 1992 and the average rainfall 602mm; there
were 61 summer days and 52 frost days.
